This “How-To” is all about fixing free downloadable contentfrom sites such as ShareCG, Renderosity, Content Paradise andmany more, too many to list here. But I am sure you know wherethey all are. If you if you don’t just Google “Free Poser and DAZStudio Content”. I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised tosee how many there actually are.

This “How-To” is for and limited to DAZ Studio Pro 4.5 or 4.6 only, but the same principles may be applied to a Poser fix as well.
How many times have you seen or found free content that grabs yourattention and you say to yourself I could use that, only to findafter you have installed the contant into you designated “Runtime” or “My DAZ 3D Library”that it cannot find the required files. More times thanyou can count I bet. I know I have.
LDP-R is an outdoor lighting solution for DAZ Studio 4.6., based on the original bestselling Light Dome PRO and Light Dome PRO 2 for DAZ Studio. R stands for Revolution and it’s truly a totally new concept in lighting giving you: – Extreme Rendering Speed And Ease Of Use – Instant Live Adjustments With Unpresedented Control. This problem is not isolated to Textures but OBJ (WavefrontObject) Files as well. And on some occasions DAZ Studio DSF files.
Most often than not it is caused by content providers not following the prescribedfolder structure or just plain old fashioned sloppiness.
Essentially this it is how to fix broken paths, missing orfolders in the wrong place, or just crappy coding of the CR2, PZ2 and PP2 files.Well the answer is quite simple and straight forward.
NB. You cannot edit DAZ Studio DUF files directly as they are encrypted. Attempting to do so will corrupt the file.
Let’s get started….
First of all you are going to need two things, a Text Editor that doesnot format or insert formatting codes, and a Utility program thatwill Merge folders and keep the destination folder’s (Runtime) integrity.
NB. Please do not use MS Word (Mac or Windows version) as itinserts formatting codes that will render your file useless and DAZStudio and Poser will not be able to read them.
I work primarily on an iMac with OS X 10.8.5 (although I do haveWindows 8 running under a Parallels Desktop 8 VM for codecompatibility testing).Daz Studio 4.6 Pro Download
My Text Editor of choice for the iMac is TextWrangler (Free) forediting files and Folder Merge (Free) for installing contentmanually. Links to the websites to download them are at the bottom of the page.
Windows users can either use the inbuilt Notepad or download NotePad++(Free). Merging folders in Windows is a native function so you willnot require a Merge Utility.
Ok, onto the meat of the problem.
Situation 1 – DS Cannot Find the required Texture(s) Files
The diagram below shows a typical scenario after installation. You double click on the ContentIcon Image to insert Clothing, Props etc., and the following message appears:
You now have three options: Locate, Skip and Stop Asking. They are pretty self explanatory really but I will list what each does.
Locate: Opens Finder (or Windows Explorer) allowing you to searchfor the un-locateable files. Problem is you need to know where theyare!
Skip: Will do just that, skip looking for the file.
Stop Asking: Same as above, but will not look for any subsequentfiles either.
If you click Skip or Stop Asking you will have the content modelinserted but it will not have the missing textures applied, as shownbelow:
My solution at this point is to click Stop Asking, shutdown DAZStudio and start fixing the problem.
Step 1
Locate the suspect Content’s folder(s). Normally opening theoriginal ZIP (or RAR) file will show you the folder structure for thecontent. Or, if you know where the folders are just go straight to them in Finder.
A typical Folder structure would be as follows:
As you can see here the folder structure looks OK as the Textures folder is under the Runtime folder. So in this caseit is probably the CR2 (PZ2 or PP2) file that is the culprit and contains an incorrect pathto the texture file(s) location.
If the “Textures” folder is not directly under the parent “Runtime” folder then that is the problem and the “Textures” folder needs to be moved (or merged) into the correct place under the “Runtime” folder.Doing this should fix this particular problem.
Step 2
Locate the problematic CR2, PP2 or PZ2 file for editing. You will know which it is by hovering over its graphic image in DAZ Studio’s Content window and a box will pop-up showing you the filename and extension.
Or, click once on the image and open the Info panel at the bottom or the window as shown below. You will now see the filename and extension.
About now you are probably thinking, jeez won’t I break the file? No, not if you follow the instructions carefully. If the worst case scenario happens you can always get the file out of the downloaded ZIP or RAR file and replace it.
Then start again.
With TextWrangler open, drag the file onto its Dock Icon or use the Open File menu. It’s up to you.
You should now have the relevant file open.
The lines of code you are looking for look like the following diagram (or similar):
As a rule of thumb when I am coding or creating content I like to keep compatibility between Operating Systems by using the “Colon” (:) path separator and not the Backslash separator common to Windows paths.
A common error will be like this on Mac OS X and also on Windows if the path does not exist:
textureMap “C:Documents and SettingsMy ContentRuntimeTexturesGooseHat_B1.png”……..which of course OS X cannot find. Nor will Windows if the path does not exist.
textureMap “:Runtime:Textures:Goose:Hat_B1.png”
Or, you may have something like this, where the content was created on a Windows PC in the “Downloads” folder (Directory) and there are two entries for each texture file.
file “:Downloads:runtime:Textures:internetmoi:divers:texture15.jpg”
textureMap “:Downloads:runtime:Textures:internetmoi:divers:texture15.jpg”……Download Daz Studio 4.6 Pro Free
Now, removing the offending “Downloads” entry would fix the problem.دانلود نرم افزار Daz Studio 4.6 Pro
Essentially you do not need a preceding folder to the “:runtime:” entry, as DAZ Studio will use Relative paths to find the files as long as they are in a Mapped Content Folder. That is the Folder entries in your Content Manager Pane under DAZ Studio Formats and Poser Formats.
OK, enough of that let’s fix an example. Because the entries we are looking for, and there are two separate entries for each texture file (see above), are right down the bottom of the file it is easier to a “Search and Replace” than manually try to find them, and there maybe quite a lot of them depending on the complexity of the object being placed and the number of Textures involved.
First, do a Find (normally F3 or fn+F3 on a Mac)for the incorrect path text by swiping over (highlighting)the text, CTRL+C to copy it, then CTRL+V to paste it into the Search Box.
Now, in the Replace Box put or copy the correct text. Then press the ReplaceAll Button. NB. Check it is correct first, then check it again..!!
You have fixed your first file……Now we need to test it in DAZ Studio, and I’m sure I don’t have to tell you how to do that…LOL
